Companies Hiring Now: Amazon, UPS, Bombardier and Who Else Is Recruiting (Late October 2026)

Amazon plans to hire more than 300,000 seasonal workers in the US and 9,000 in Canada, UPS is adding 100,000, and Bombardier is recruiting for 500 aerospace roles. Here is who is hiring right now in Canada and the US, how to apply, and how to decide which postings deserve your time.

Hiring hasn't stopped, it's moved

Job growth has slowed on both sides of the border, as we covered in this week's job market outlook. But a slow market is not a closed one. Over the past week, several large employers announced recruitment drives with real, open applications, most of them tied to the holiday shipping season and a few to longer-term expansion.

This roundup separates roles you can apply for now from hiring that is announced but not yet fully open, and ends with a tip on choosing which postings to pursue. Pay figures are in local currency (CAD for Canada, USD for the US) and come from the employers or the outlets cited.

Open now: seasonal logistics and retail

Amazon (US): more than 300,000 seasonal roles

Amazon announced on October 20 that it plans to hire more than 300,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers across its US operations network for the holidays, about 20% more than last year, according to Modern Retail. Seasonal workers earn an average of about $20 an hour, the Boston Globe reported, and those working at least 30 hours a week become eligible for health coverage starting January 1. Massachusetts alone accounts for about 6,000 of the openings.

  • Roles: warehouse and delivery station work such as picking, packing, sorting and shipping.
  • Status: active. Amazon says new openings are posted weekly through December and can fill quickly.
  • Apply: hiring.amazon.com, as linked in CNN's coverage of the announcement.

Amazon (Canada): 9,000 seasonal roles at 55 sites

North of the border, Amazon Canada is hiring 9,000 seasonal workers across 55 fulfillment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations. The company says the average base wage for seasonal roles is nearly $24 an hour, and seasonal staff get some benefits from day one, including an employee assistance program and an employee discount.

  • Status: active, with roles posted on a rolling basis through the season.
  • Apply: hiring.amazon.ca. Amazon notes it hires directly and never charges applicants a fee, a useful check against the fake "Amazon recruiter" messages that circulate every fall.

UPS (US): 100,000 seasonal workers

UPS said in early October that it plans to hire about 100,000 seasonal workers to sort, move and deliver packages, Quartz reported. That is down from 110,000 last year, a sign that automation in its sorting network is trimming seasonal headcount. UPS says some applicants can get an offer within minutes, and seasonal roles can lead to permanent jobs. Search openings on the UPS jobs site.

Michaels (US and Canada): more than 10,000 seasonal roles

The craft retailer began hiring in September for more than 10,000 seasonal store roles across both countries. Modern Retail reports that nearly half of last year's seasonal hires converted to permanent positions. Apply through Michaels careers. Because hiring started weeks ago, check which stores still list openings before you apply.

Chipotle (Western Canada): hiring day on October 28

Chipotle is holding a Western Canada Hiring Day on Wednesday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time, aiming to fill up to 100 full- and part-time crew roles at restaurants in British Columbia and Alberta. Interviews are in person. The company says most of its Canadian general managers were promoted from within, and it offers tuition assistance. Details and listings are at jobs.chipotle.ca.

Announced: Bombardier's US aerospace expansion

Montreal-based Bombardier said on October 23 that it will recruit for 500 roles across the US and plans another 300 jobs through expansion projects, Reuters reported. The hiring is spread across Texas, Kansas, Indiana and Connecticut, backed by an initial investment of about US$270 million. The announcement came amid political pressure from Washington over market access.

The company has not published a role-by-role breakdown, but its US growth centres on aircraft service and maintenance. A new service centre in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is set to handle maintenance, modifications and avionics work. Wichita is its largest US base.

What this means for applicants: The 500 roles are being recruited now; the other 300 depend on projects moving ahead. If you are an aircraft maintenance technician, avionics specialist or skilled tradesperson in those states, check Bombardier's careers site directly rather than relying on news headlines.

Context: who is cutting

Hiring news sits alongside cuts, mostly in tech and corporate roles. In October, Fast Company tallied about 1,000 job cuts at Netflix, roughly 660 at HubSpot, about 270 departures at Flock Safety through a voluntary program, and fewer than 1,000 corporate roles at Amazon across several countries. That split, with hourly operations hiring while white-collar teams shrink, matches the posting trends we have tracked this month.

Should you take a seasonal job?

Seasonal work won't fit everyone, but it can make sense if you:

  • Need income while you search. Flexible shifts can leave time for applications and interviews.
  • Want a foot in the door. Michaels' conversion rate and UPS's permanent-role path show that some seasonal hires stay on. Ask at the interview how many seasonal staff were kept last year.
  • Are early in your career. Warehouse and retail roles build references and reliability on a resume.

Be realistic about trade-offs: shifts can be physical, schedules shift fast in December, and most seasonal contracts end in January. And because more people compete when the market is slow, apply early in the week postings go live.

Tip #2: Run a two-minute fit check before you apply

The problem: In a slow market, it is tempting to apply to everything. Spreading effort thin usually means generic applications that don't clearly match any one role.

What to do instead: Before applying, list the posting's must-have requirements (usually the first few bullets, or anything marked "required"). Mark each one yes, partly or no based on truthful evidence you can show. Prioritize roles where you meet most must-haves, and spend the time you save tailoring those applications.

Example: A logistics coordinator posting requires shipment tracking, Excel and a forklift licence.

  • Before: You apply to it and 20 similar roles with the same resume.
  • After: You score it 2 out of 3, apply with a resume that leads with tracking and Excel, and skip three postings where you met only one requirement.

Today's action: Pick the next five postings on your list and score them. Apply first to the two highest.

The takeaway

The biggest hiring pushes this fall are in warehouses, delivery and stores, and they are open now. For skilled trades and aerospace, Bombardier's US expansion is worth watching in four states. Wherever you apply, use official careers sites, act quickly on seasonal postings, and put your effort into the roles you actually fit.
